Satosphere

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What with the rain today I had a chance to work on a pet project! The Satosphere!

Its an 18 1/2" (3 1/4" deep) Prime focus dish with a radome protecting the dish and LNB, right now I am using a DBS LNB but hope to add a Linear Ku LNBF when ever the rain stops!

I plan or removing the LNBF cover to compensate for any signal loss caused by the radome!

Pictures below! Maybe an idea for folks that are not allowed a satellite dish (Or another satellite dish!

I also plan on working with an inverted dish to make a Low Pro version!

Hey pete, where did that 18 1/2" dish come from ? Is it used and if so what was it used for? Or did you have it made up especially for this project? It looks like it would make a good portable for my camper van, less wind resistance than the cup of an un covered dish, HUMM, I wonder if it will pick up my internet signal?   WhiteoakHarold

thats sooo coool,
ok, whats the origin of thr RADOME protector??
also, this is from my lack of exprience( but can not learn and grow knowledge base if ya dont ask questions)
does the prime focus cut down the need for 30inches for Ku, you said you are going to add a linear lnb . have you dont that yet?
and is a stronger ku band linear signaled  TP going to be your only viewing options?
and just like whiteoak was curios,, where did that little cute prime focus dish come from??( was the cover and the dish the internal replacement guts of a KING RVdomed antenna???

These are just scrap parts I pick up on my travels, I did get round to adding the linear Ku LNBF but even with a prime focus dish it acted just like a 21" dish. Worked fine for the REALLY strong Ku signals but of course as soon as it starts to rain the signal would drop.

This configuration will really only work for the MUCH stronger DBS satellites, but it was a lot of fun.  I have another sphere that I will be adding to the back of the above to make a complete circle, but don't hold your breath getting very cold here!

I finally got a ROUND to adding the bottom part to this antenna.

Guess I will need to think of a new name for it now!
