Authorities say the man killed by police officers in Cottage Grove was the target of a weapons investigation.     

Department of Public Safety spokesman Doug Neville told reporters Thursday the man was a known felon.     

The incident began about 11 p.m. Wednesday when seven members of the Washington County special response team stopped a car on a residential street in Cottage Grove.

Investigators say the man got out and refused to follow orders from the officers, four of whom opened fire. They're not saying yet if he had a weapon or threatened the officers. He died at the scene.   

Another man in the car was wounded and taken to Regions Hospital. His condition has not been released. The female driver of the car was arrested.

The police here just blow you away if you pull out a gun. There was a video last night on the news, where an OLD drunk (Mentally ill) guy S L O W L Y  pull a gun out his vehicle and pointed it at some cops.

They shot him dead.............  that's somebody's father.

They should have shot the gun out his hands (If they could) or shoot his legs away from him. Or what about tasering him?

It's all about $ here, cheaper just to shoot him full of holes and be done with it, no years and years of hospitalization to pay for!

Europe has become americanized in the last 2 or 3 decades ... the cops over here also shot some people dead without any reason. They even shot teenagers dead in Austria and Germany!
