On October 12 1957 i built my first satellite receiver to enter the national science fair
the satellite was Sputnik 1 In Russian "Спутник-1" There was a 22 day window to capture
the signals emitted as the satellite passed over the united states i received 12 minutes of signals from the bird as it was traveling at 18,000 miles per hour taking about 96 minutes to complete an orbit, and emitted radio signals at 20.005 and 40.002 MHz beep beep beep beep it was a simple project using a crystal radio and a toilet paper tube coil for tuning no batteries and a headset.  I won that Science fair in Pennsylvania in grade school.
